Dr Nick Osbaldiston

Dr Osbaldiston is a senior lecturer in sociology at James Cook University. Prior to his employment here in 2015, Nick worked at Monash University and the University of Melbourne. His primary research interests are in the role of lifestyle in migration throughout Australia. He has published widely in this area including a monograph entitled Seeking Authenticity in Place, Culture and Self (Palgrave, 2012) and an edited volume with Michaela Benson called Understanding Lifestyle Migration (Palgrave 2014). Nick also researchers in coastal places in climate change adaptation, insurance and underinsurance concerns and cultural understandings of the shore. He also researches on academic labour and has recently co-edited a volume with Fabian Cannizzo entitled The Social Structures of Global Academia (Routledge 2019).
