Stress and trauma are unwelcome aspects of our life. They impact the development, the adult functioning and the aging process of the brain. It is crucial to understand and appreciate how this happens to we can develop effective prevention strategies. This lecture will provide an overview of how stress affects the brain from embryonic development to old age and how such interaction contribute in a variety of brain health disorders, including anxiety, depression, psychotic disorders and even Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias of the elderly. We will outline some strategies to mitigate the negative impact of stress through life.
