Presented by the Cairns South Collective Impact project, the film highlights how researchers have recently come to better understand how poor life outcomes are directly impacted by Adverse Childhood Experiences. 'Resilience' reveals how subsequent toxic stresses can trigger hormones which wreak havoc on the brains and bodies of children, putting them at a greater risk for disease, homelessness, prison time and early death. While the broader impacts of poverty worsen the risk, no segment of society is immune. The documentary chronicles the dawn of a more collective response movement which is determined to fight back. Trailblazers in paediatrics, education and social welfare discuss the cutting edge science and field tested therapies to protect children from the insidious effects of toxic stress.
