At the recent Social Science Community for the GBR’s symposium “REEFLECTIONS” in Townsville, the workshop was presented by The Cairns Institute’s D/Prof Stewart Lockie, Dr Rana Dadpour, Dr Gillian Paxton, and First Nations TCI Cadet Charlie Milson-Owen. It unpacked findings from the RRAP Social Licence project — a major study of community, stakeholder, and Traditional Owner perspectives on reef restoration and adaptation.
Participants explored how social insights can inform policy, guide management, and strengthen the Reef’s resilience to climate change. Together, they mapped opportunities, identified indicators, and co-produced recommendations for embedding social licence into future reef initiatives. ??
