Key skills
- Analysis of data using statistics to create explanatory and predictive models
- Scientific research publishing, especially in statistical analysis used for the assessment and monitoring of population health needs
- People and Project Management including design and implementation of community based projects, research and external consultancy
- Stakeholder engagement, collaboration and consultation to enhance project outcomes; including the use of web-based resources for this purpose and communication for multiple audiences including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across a range of media (written, spoken, digital and broadcast)
- Continuous quality improvement, monitoring and evaluation
- Teaching at community and university levels
Teaching

Graduated Students: Masters (thesis) Sharron Long (School of Public Health) 2013
Research
Susan commenced at The Cairns Institute in 2012, working initially on substance mis-use and homelessness issues across Northern Australia, collaborating with Professor Komla Tsey (JCU), Dr Irina Kinchin and Professor Chris Doran (UQ, now CQU). More recently, Susan accepted the position of Epidemiologist with the Primary Health Network, where she leads the Research portfolio working as the integral link to JCU, Community Primary Health and Hospital Based care- within the newly formed Academic Health centre- Tropical Australia Academic Health Centre (TAAHC). She continues her collaborations with JCU as an Adjunct Researcher with The Cairns Institute.
Prior to arriving at the Cairns Institute Susan conducted her PhD studies comprising of equal components of ‘human health’, ‘ecology’ and ‘statistical analysis’. The overarching theme centred on mosquitoes: as vectors of disease, their breeding habitats, and evaluations of the anthropogenic ecological changes conducted to reduce their breeding.
